Enjoying the Arts in Fishers
Fishers, Indiana is pushing itself to not only be one of Indianapolis’s largest suburbs but also to become a hub for arts and culture that is unique to this thriving city. Although a lot of the development around downtown is relatively new, city leaders are driven by a desire to bring the best of the best to the community and its residents. There are several initiatives and events already in place to bring the arts alive in the area. If you live in the Fishers apartments at Nickel Plate Station, you’ll enjoy the perfect location for access to all these exciting happenings!
Arts Leadership
There are two huge champions for the arts in Fishers. The first is the Fishers Arts & Culture Commission. They describe themselves as “the nexus between the local government and the residents of the city, bridging the public and private partnership.” The second is the Fishers Arts Council, and they are described as “partners with local organizations, artists, performers, students and others for arts and culture occasions that enhance our vibrant city.” With these two cultural juggernauts in place, residents of Fishers can look forward to many arts and culture opportunities now and in the future.
Arts Hotspots
If you’re looking to get your arts fix, there are a few great places to start. The Nickel Plate District Amphitheater is right in the heart of Fishers and is a venue for several exciting events. You can go here to enjoy live music from local artists and visiting artists alike. But that’s not all! This is also the site for the Fishers Farmers Market, street festivals, and even movies in the park. Another great place to visit is the Art Gallery at City Hall. It features exhibits filled with creations from local artists. You can check out the archives to see previous exhibitions and even purchase some of the art that inspires you. You don’t even have to go to a specific spot in Fishers to enjoy some art. There are also several displays of public art around the city that you can enjoy on a casual drive or walk around.
Arts Events
For anyone who craves live music, the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater has already started on a summer schedule. You can come enjoy Blues Fest on Labor Day weekend. And it’s absolutely free! The Fishers Farmers Market doesn’t just offer fresh produce and other locally sourced goods. There’s also a free concert during the market every Saturday at 10 AM, and again, it’s free for all. If you’re looking to view some top local art, then there’s always a Second Friday exhibition sponsored by the Fishers Arts Council and other exhibits. Check out the full schedule. Finally, there’s a week-long, massive event to celebrate all things Fishers: Spark!Fishers. During the last full week of June, you can indulge in food, music, art, fireworks, and even a car show!
Living in a Cultural Center
If you have a special dedication to the arts and all that they entail, then you’ll want to live in the Nickel Plate District.
